disabling accounts?

would it be possible, to have an option, in your account settings, that allows you to disable or delete your account? If you want a new account, or want to leave, I think you should be able to do this, so if, for any reason you wish to create a new account, you don't get banned, for having more than one account. what does everyone think about this?

Theirs already a topic on this somewhere down the board posts. Everything is explained y they don't delete accounts in that topic.

But if a person, could get banned, for putting too many, commas, in the wrong, places, I'd be all, for it.

here's my thaughts:

1. you can't remove acounts, because each of them have a number, and it would mess the system up

2:. don't log in. you don't need your acount disabled, surely not loging in gets the same results

Post 7 by PrincessCarlie (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 14-May-2008 15:14:48

if the account is disabled, not removed, the numbers wont change. and also, yes I agree with the fact that if you dont wanna come here anymore dont log in, but there are times when a new account is better. if an account is disabled, nothing is messed up. the numbers dont change, board posts stay the same...

I agree that we should be able to create new accounts

Post 9 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Thursday, 15-May-2008 7:55:36

but why would you want to create a new account. what would be the reasoning behind that? That is just like creating multiple accounts. if you need to change your e-mail, you can do that right in the account settings, so why would you want to make a new one, I think that would lead to site spamming.

Post 10 by PrincessCarlie (Account disabled) on Thursday, 15-May-2008 8:21:08

if you disable an account before creating a new one, how is it multiple accounts? you can only use one account. and, if people are so worried about people abusing it, or whatever, have it set so that, once you have created a second account, after disabling the first one, your second account can not be disabled. the option only appears in your first account.

Post 11 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Thursday, 15-May-2008 12:23:50

but what would be the reason you want a 2nd account. as far as I can tell there is no point to it. you only need one account on here, so why would you disable one and then create another one? seems a bit pointless to me.

The only reason I can think of for doing such a thing is if someone has so humiliated themselves on here that they want to try again and pretend to be someone totally different. LOL

Post 13 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Thursday, 15-May-2008 15:36:32

but you are who you are. in real life we can't just kill ourselvs and start over. so why should this be any different. plus if they humilated themselves then got another account, it wouldn't take that long to figure out who it is.

Post 14 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Thursday, 15-May-2008 18:13:03

I agree with Becky. And for such reasons the humiliation should be allowed to live on. To give us all a chuckle as well as serving as a cautionary tale for them and everybody else hee hee

In seriousness though, I've still seen no compelling reason for being able to disable and create a new account and I don't think it should be allowed. Why not just change your nick and take on a new persona *smile*

Post 15 by PrincessCarlie (Account disabled) on Thursday, 15-May-2008 21:03:47

changing your nick would be all good, however, remember, there is a limit on that too. unless of course you are premium.

Changing your nickname would be good enough if it didn't list all your previous names in the profile! I wish that detail could be changed.

Post 17 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Saturday, 17-May-2008 16:17:45

Again, I can't see the need for not having previous user names listed or in disabling your account so you can start another one unless you are trying to totally reinvent yourself.

Post 18 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Saturday, 17-May-2008 22:00:45

Now what would be the reason behind that, people don't just change just like that. it takes months, maybe even years for some aspects of a person's personality to change, but then some parts never do.

Post 19 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Sunday, 18-May-2008 11:50:44

I'm not saying there is any good reason to do it. In fact, that's my point. Why would you want a completely new name and account on here without anyone being able to look up what your name used to be unless you were trying to reinvent yourself? I agree that your true personality would come out soon, and people would recognize your writing style among other things. So I don't get why people want more than one account.

Post 20 by PrincessCarlie (Account disabled) on Sunday, 18-May-2008 16:23:39

there are more reasons, other than hiding, or changing yourself. but I am not going to go into them here. if you really want to know, you can ask me.

Post 21 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Sunday, 18-May-2008 17:29:31

you might have iother reasons, but what about everyone else.

Post 22 by blbobby (Ooo you're gona like this!) on Monday, 19-May-2008 3:14:48

If you have a compelling reason to change your account, you can send a message to the admins and explain your reasons. They may be able to help you out.
In general, I don't think that we'll ever get the ability to disable an account once it's created.
